Sonoma Coast State Park Elopement: Marcus & Erika

  /
November 22, 2014

There are two reasons why I moved back to California from Brooklyn. The weather and the landscapes. Sonoma coast state park is one of my favorite spots in California. I’m lucky enough to live an hour from this amazing location. I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot Marcus and Erika’s Sonoma coast state park elopement. If you ever have the opportunity to visit you should definitely take the time to come check it out. I promise you won’t regret it.

Erika & Marcus both happened to be camping at Stonyford on Saturday, April 3, 2010. Stonyford is a camping and OHV riding area in the Mendocino National Forest.

While Marcus was off riding dirt bikes with his friends all day, he left Joey (his boxer) behind at the campsite. Lola (Erika’s boxer) wanted a friend so Erika decided to let Joey play with Lola. Lola happened to take quite a liking to Joey that weekend! The dogs clearly knew something we did not.

Luckily there was a family camping between the two groups that exchanged contact information with Marcus and his friends, and Erika and her friends. Marcus and Erika ran into each other over the summer at the family’s house that they both met camping.

There was always a spark between the two and that summer Marcus made a move…they shared their first kiss on a jet ski at sunset. However, the timing was off and Erika wasn’t quite ready for anything to develop between the two. Marcus moved back to Colorado in November of 2010 and Erika & Marcus stayed in touch on Facebook and through occasional calls and text messages.

Fate decided to step in when Marcus came back to California for a visit at the end of January 2011. Marcus and Erika spent some time together one evening and the beginning of the rest of their lives started that night! Marcus extended his visit in California to spend more time with Erika, but he eventually had to fly home to Colorado. Erika dropped Marcus off at the airport and they had a plan for Marcus to move back to California 4-6 weeks later.

That only lasted 10 days….they couldn’t stand to be apart from each other! Erika flew out to Colorado, met Marcus’ amazing family and friends and they drove back to California together to start their life together.
